Habitat
City life is hectic, busy and full of noise, such as advertisements and shops demanding your attention. The concept of consumerism makes me overstimulated and annoyed. How can we still push people to think they need more, while our needs can be so simple: a roof above your head and a peaceful place to live. The places where we find peace are cut down to make space for more houses, warehouses and highways. Let’s protect nature where we can and think about our behaviour that is threatening this.
In this work, I wanted to point out this feeling. For it to have an impact, I needed to go out of my comfort zone. The bigger, the better! So I silkscreened on a size I never used before and created a 3-panelled city view where nature is still the centre, but for how long? – On show during 'Uit Het Gareel & Friends'-expo at Grafische Werkplaats Den Haag until the beginning of November (first 2 photos: Liz Ruijgt)
